… new bags!

Posted in: Made by hand, News

In the shop now ~ very excited about these little beauties as I have been working for weeks on the design, producing a prototype, sourcing the perfect fabric and buttons, and finally stitching them together … and here they are!

I used a beautiful linen and cotton mix fabric for the outer, and the lining, pockets and trim are detailed in vintage and reclaimed cottons and linens. All the buttons are vintage, either from my own collection, or sourced specifically for these bags. I have loved making these, especially hand stitching the detail onto the button loops and straps.

I uploaded them to my shop this morning … and have had a sale already! So happy that someone else loves them as much as I do!

Wishing you all a happy week ahead.

… two happy things

Posted in: Made by hand, News

Happy thing one:

~ you can find a little bitty about lemon loves at the Response Exhibition over on the Arteria Shop blog … I am very excited about this … it all feels unreal and really very real at the same time, and it makes me smile!

Happy thing two:

~ I have finally finally finally finished the four bags I have been working on … it feels like it has taken me forever, but then I had to remind myself that the whole ‘design and make a new bag’ project was put on hold by the ‘make four bags and fifteen baskets for the Response Exhibition’ project … and so, with that in mind, I’ve actually done quite well! And here is a little sneaky peek …

… I’m hoping to photograph them properly at the weekend, and if all goes to plan these will be in the shop next week!  Yee~ha!

… this photo!

Last week I put this little photo montage on my lemon loves facebook page

Fabric baskets

… pictures of some little fabric baskets I made before Christmas ~ they were the prototypes that led to my nieces Christmas presents ~ and I wanted to test the water and see if they might be saleable.

I was quite overwhelmed with the response ~ the photo got more views and comments than any I have posted before. I was happy. And then, an email arrived. I had to read it two or three times before it really made sense.

It was from a woman who works in a gallery, telling me about a forthcoming exhibition, and asking if I would like to submit some of these little baskets to be a part of the exhibition. It runs from March to June, and my work would be available for sale … and could I let them have some of my bags too! Well, YES!!

And since then I have been veering between excitement, disbelief and fear! The gallery is in the North of England and it looks lovely, and I am very proud that someone has seen potential in my work.

And I now have a very busy February coming up making little baskets and reversible bags ~ and it feels really good!

… feel good friday :)

Posted in: Home Life, Out and About

I hereby declare this week to have been a ‘good week’! Full of bright moments, beauty, appreciation and positive challenges! And most of it passed without my camera by my side.

I would so love to share with you the beauty of the winter sunlight on Wednesday afternoon as it glanced across a landscape of fields which really did roll and undulate.

I was travelling along the ‘B’ roads of East Dorset, from Verwood, through the delightfully named Sixpenny Handley up to Shaftesbury to join the A350. It was mid afternoon and the fields were still heavy with frost, muted in tones of blue and green, sparkling where the sunlight danced across the hedgerows. Naked trees punctuating the scene with their stately skeletons, throwing long shadows across empty fields. A hint of mist played in the valleys, fracturing the weak sunlight, gently lighting up the scene. It was, literally, breathtaking.

Later, on the same journey, now travelling by train, through Bath, the towering stone townhouses alongside the track were glowing proudly in the last glances of sunlight. And then, whizzing across that narrow strand of countryside between Bristol and the Severn tunnel, the flat flood plains darkening, preparing for another biting night, the sun just dipping below the horizon leaving a pale orange smear low in the sky in front of which, briefly, stood a tall row of ancient twisted winter trees; natures sculpture in natures fading spotlight. I did capture it, not with my camera, but with my mind. It was beautiful.

To make up for the absence of misty, hauntingly beautiful landscape pictures, I wanted to share with you some of my favourite blogs right now … these are some of the places which keep my ‘feel good factor’ alive and well.

First up …

… I am loving Srapiana, for her scraps & scribblings on sewing, thrift, upcycling & vintage haberdashery, and especially for these gloriously simple christmas decoration ideas …

The ‘love what you wear’ project has given my current lack of clothing allowance a new meaning and purpose, and I am now connected to a creative and innovative group of women who are inspiring me with new ideas every day!

For the wit of her writing, the angle of her view and the humour and beauty of her creations I am so glad I recently discovered the blog of the lovely Fiona T.

To satisfy my cravings for Scandi design, beautiful interiors and general all round gorgeousness I hop over to Little Birdie … I am especially loving her ’52 weeks of Happy’ series …
