… Liverpool

Posted in: Out and About

Last weekend I made my first ever visit to Liverpool ~ silly really, as it is only 3 hours up the road ~ but there you go! We only had a day in the city, and rain was forcast, so we headed for the waterfront, for the Tate Gallery and the Albert Dock. And it was glorious. And I will be returning!

Taking this country girl and plopping her into the middle of a city is like putting a child in a sweet shop ~ I don’t always know which way to turn first ~ I am suddenly over-stimulated by new sights, sounds, vistas, contrasts … the shapes and colours and scale of the city always feel new to me ~ new patterns, new textures, new ways to see the landscape. I love to be there. And I love to come home again afterwards.

… a celebratory giveaway!

Posted in: Made by hand
*Giveaway now closed*

And why not? Who knew when I set out on this little blogging adventure that I would reach one hundred posts in just 10 months? And who knew how much fun it would be?

So in a little celebration, and to say a thank you to those of you who read, and comment and have become a part of the lemon loves story I thought I would test the waters with my first giveaway. And what better way to set the wheels in motion than to find a new home for one of these little needlecases I made a few weeks ago.

hand made needlecases

They were a experimental project to use up some of the scraps I have been accumulating, and they turned out rather well. They are both lined with a matching cotton and have a grey wool weave insert ~ perfect for keeping your needles safe and organised!

But I though they looked a little lonely on their own ~ so I have created a “Marvellous Made in Leominster” giveaway by bundling them up with some goodies from a local craft project.

A little pink and blue bundle ~ needlecase, lavendar bag and scottie dog greeting card …

yellow and green bundle

Or a little yellow and green bundle ~ needlecase, lavendar bag and hessian and heart greeting card …

… all you have to do is leave me a comment letting me know which bundle is your favourite ~ pink and blue or yellow and green ~ and one of these will be winging their way to a lovely (name drawn out of the hat) winner next week.

But, wait … that’s not all!! Oh no!

I am also launching a monthly newsletter ~ to be emailed free to all subscribers ~ so if you want a little more lemon loves goodness in your inbox ~ extra news, pictures, lemon loves updates and the occasional surprise ~ make sure you click the subscribe button above and get on the list!! The first newsletter will be on it’s way to you before the end of July ~ wowzers!!

Wowzers indeed ~ that’s it folks ~ your one hundredth lemon loves blog post!

The giveaway will close 6pm BST Sunday 1st July. Winner to be announced on Monday 2nd.

Wishing you all a fabulous weekend!

… my first quilt & new friends

Posted in: News

Hello 2012! I have a plan ~ I will think good thoughts about what this new year holds ~ and maybe they will come true!

Looking back over last year, I was thinking about the good bits, the bits which made me happy, and one thing which leapt out was the sense of achievement I had on completing my first ever quilt project.

The completed quilt is far from perfect, and was made largely with guesswork, hope and love … but I am still so pleased with it.

These are the only pictures I took of the process, and next time I will photograph every step, but I am pleased I captured these, pinning it out to make the ‘quilt sandwich’ was hard work, not good for knees and backs!!

Taking the first step to machine sew all three layers together was one of those deep breath moments … and again, I think I have a lot to learn, but i did it!

The finished quilt lives in ‘my room’, on the futon, and I have loved using it to make up the guest bed when we have had visitors. It is a proper ‘working quilt’.

The fabrics are vintage and reclaimed, there was only one ‘new’ fabric used in the quilt, the age of some of these fabrics gives the quilt a wonderful softness, and I have included some ‘flaws’ too in the older fabrics, to tell the story of their history.

At the beginning of 2011 I decided one thing I would like to achieve would be to make a quilt, and in August of this year I did just that. And now, looking forward, I know that I want to make more, I want to learn more and this little project, with it’s simple squares, and it’s straight line stitching is, I hope, just the beginning.

And speaking of beginnings, last year saw the beginning of my bloggy journey, and I hope that this year will see it grow and develop. Whilst exploring other blogs to find some quilting expertise, I was lucky enough to find Lily’s Quilts and to discover that she hosts a Small Blog Meet ~ so I have jumped at the chance to connect with fellow ‘small bloggers’ and hopefully will be welcoming some new visitors as well as discovering new blogs I can be inspired by.

So, thank you for visiting, friends old and new ~ and here’s to a fabulous year ahead of growth and exploration!
