… a new challenge

Posted in: Made by hand

So you may remember I have been making dresses from pillow cases to send to Dress a Girl Around the World

Hand made shorts

Louise, who coordinates the charity in the UK sends the dresses on to a variety of projects and charities in Africa and India, and recently she requested that we expand our skills, from dresses …

… to shorts. Because boys need clothes too.

But, SHORTS! I have never made a pair of shorts in my life, so I set to some googling, and found that in fact it might be surprisingly easy! Especially when I discovered this amazing pattern by Petchy which uses two pieces of fabric and has a drawstring waist! Perfect!

And indeed, it worked! I even added a patch pocket onto the back! One 1980′s duvet cover = ten pairs of boys shorts! Ta~dah!!

Louise needs lots more of these by the end of May – so if you have some time, an old duvet cover in the back of a cupboard and the inclination to do something which fills you up with ‘happy’, you can find out more here.

These cheery beauties will be winging their way to Africa at the end of May. Job done!
